Especialy the site of the province of Drenthe is very complete. maybe it helps some of the other Buist.

My family consists of my wife Karen and my four sons, Eric, Terry, Colin and Kevin. My Dad was a member of the Scots Guards and the territorial Parachute regiment when we lived in Scotland. I have been working on my family tree, and it appears that there are Buist's on my mothers side - indeed her original surname was Louisa Marion Buist (B. 31 Jan 1927) before she was adopted and became a Hammond.
However, it seems that her mother was Lilias Buist (B. May 20 1884), Daughter of George Buist and Lilias Buist (originally Chalton, Born Lewis) - birth dates yet to be found. They lived in Wolverhampton at the time, but there appear to be no more Buist's left in the phone book.
I have lots more work to do on the tree, and as soon as I find more I will add to the tree for you. In the meantime, if anyone can shed light on more of my tree I would be grateful.

My full name is Ronald William Buist and my reason for being on the Google web site now is that I have just written a book called 'tales from under the rim" which is available nationally in Canada and through Barns and Noble in the U.S (published by Goose Lane Editions )It is the marketing story of Tim Hortons and describes among other things, the contest 'roll up the rim to win" which I invented. My father's name (deceased) was William Alexander Buist. His father was Ormston Buist. Dad was born in Hamilton Ontario Canada where his Father, Ormston, had a large ice cream plant, Buist Ice Cream. Ormston invented the brick of ice cream and designed one of the first cardboard milk cartons. Dad had a brother Fred (deceased) who lived in Sarnia, Ontario. OUr side of the Buist family immigrated to Canada from Scotland in 1834. There were seven brothers, all of whom had 'alexander" as part of their name. My mother's maiden name was Meredith. Mom (now deceased) and Dad were married in Toronto in 1927. I have a sister, Patrica June, who lives now in N. Carolina. I am married with two children, Kevin and Suzanne both married. Very interested in finding out about the missing Scottish link back in 1834 and earlier. I'll watch the web site.

Mijn grootmoeder is Jantina Berendina Buist, geb. 23 Febr. 1908; overleden 8 Sept.
onze geliefde man en vader onze geliefde moeder
Reinder Buist Geertje van der Molen
* 3 November 1875 * 4 Januari 1881
+ 28 Juli 1958 + 4 October 1972

Weet iemand iets over Romtje Buist, Jan Buist of Hindertje Wildschut? Alle informatie is welkom!

Groeten

Hi all, nice to have found this forum. My birth name is Marja but my nickname is Erna.
My family comes from the Netherlands, most of the Buists came from the neighbourhood around Grijpskerk in Groningen. My grandfather Gerrit Buist was the son of a farmer, he became teacher and moved to Drente and then to Haarlem. He married Marie de Haan (I think also from Grijpskerk) and they got 5 children, one of them died in WW2.
The family roots have been traced back until about 1700 and lie in Scotland.

I stumbled across this web site while searching for information about my ansestors. My great grandfather , David Elder Buist, came over to the US from Arbroath, Forfarshire Scotland around 1879 and settled in Mendon Utah. I have been able to trace back only 2 generations further to my great great great grandfather John Buist of Brechin Angus Scotland. I've been researching for quite sometime trying to uncover further roots but I've been unsuccessful. I'll be attending University in St. Andrews begining this year which has sparked my interest to learn more about my heritage and the possibility of even discovering relatives i never knew about . Anyway if any one happens to have or stumble across some info I'd appreciate it! Thanks!!

I'm looking for English & New Zealand BUISTs. Starting with George BUIST m. 1815 Mary Ann BRISLAND. Their son George James BUIST (chr. 1821, London, d. 1885 Christchurch, NZ) m. 1848 Emma HYMAS, and their son George BUIST (b. 1849, London). All this is conjecture at the moment, not confirmed, but if it all fits this last George was my 3rd great grandfather.
