1. Data in the database

• My surname is Buist. Why am I not in your database?
  
  Answer: As much as I would like to, I don't have information on all Buists around the globe. If you would like to be included, you have to help me by sending me as much information about your family as possible. Before doing so, please read the other questions in this FAQ list.
  
  
• Is all information on this website verified?
  
  Answer: Unfortunately this is not the case. For some information, I do have copies of official documents but for others I do not. One of the things on my 'to do' list is to add all verification information to the database, so that visitors will be able to see the difference between verified and unverified data.
  
  
• There's an error in your data! Can you correct it?
  
  Answer: Sure! After reading the remainder of this FAQ, please feel free to contact me. If you have verified your data, please send me a copy or scan of the document that proves your data is correct.
  
  
• What's the scope of this website and the data in your database?
  
  Answer: I collect genealogy-related data about people with surname Buist. This also includes parents, children and marriages. For parents the following restriction applies: they are only included if the surname of the person in question is Buist. Children are only included if their surname is Buist (i.e. the father is called Buist).
  
  
• I also have a genealogy website which is about another surname. It includes some of the people that are in your database. Could you include a link to my website?
  
  Answer: No problem! Let me know the URL and I will include a link. In return, I would very much appreciate a link from your website to my site.

  Answer: Most definitely; that's exactly what this website is for. Please contact me and we'll find out a way to include your data on my website.

  Answer: I think it is. I only display information that is already available to the public by other means. Additional information, like an e-mail address or photographs, can be made visible, but this will only be done upon request.
  
  
• You've included information about me. Please remove it from your database.
  
  Answer: Please understand that the data I've presented will not enable people to find out anything more than they could find out through other public sources. The data can never be used to trace you, unless you give me permission to publish e.g. your e-mail address. However, if you insist I will remove your birthdate and your place of birth from the website. Just let me know and it will be done.
  
  
• How did you get all this information?
  
  Answer: I've started with the results of the research that my father did. After putting up the website, other people have shared the results of their research with me. So if you're in my database and on this website, you probably have a relative with a passion for genealogy who was kind enough to share his data with me.
  
  

3. Technical

• Are you using a special genealogy computer program to store your data?
  
  Answer: I've created my own MS Access database, in which all the data I have is stored.
  
  
• Can I have a copy of your database?
  
  Answer: No. Besides, you can view all the information there's in there through this website.
  
  
• I don't need the data, but could you give me an empty database so I can see how you did it?
  
  Answer: No. I've done it once, but never received any feedback, not even 'thank you'. I've spent lots of time designing and improving the database and you'll have to bring a considerable amount of money to change my mind.
  
  
• How do you convert your database to HTML?
  
  Answer: I'm using Active Server Pages (ASP's), which are scripts to access the database directly and generate HTML 'on the fly'. When I've added new people, I only need to upload the database to make this available.
  
  
• Can I have your ASP sources?
  
  Answer: No.
