3/12/2005. Another big update: 110 new entries, giving a total of 1045 people in the database. Nice! Thanks to all people who have provided me with additions and corrections. Another fact worth mentioning: the total number of family trees has decreased from 11 to 9, in other words I've been able to connect two trees to other existing trees.

2/27/2005. A few additions and corrections. The total number of people in the database is now 935: steadily growing towards 1000!

1/16/2005. Another update: additions to the "American connection". This brings the total number of people on this website to over 900!

12/28/2004. It is now possible to display all descendants of one person on one page. This is used on the family trees page. When you click on the name of a family tree root, all known descendants of this person are shown.

12/26/2004. I'm processing all the e-mails that I received over the last 6 months or so. I've added some people to the database and I've updated/corrected some of the existing data. I hope I'll be able to send personal replies to all your e-mails soon.

6/17/2004. Another small update. A few corrections and some new persons. I still have some e-mails to answer, so more updates are coming..

6/9/2004. Major update! With many thanks to several people, but most of all Girbe Buist from Assen, I've been able to link two family trees that were separate up until yesterday. The number of family trees, however, remains 10 because of the fact that in the new data a new tiny family tree is introduced. Given the names in this family tree, I think this small tree fits in one of the bigger trees somewhere, but where exactly still needs to be sorted out. The database now contains 639 people.

6/6/2004. With many thanks to Ico Smit for the data on his Spriensma website as well as an e-mail that I received from him, I've been able to update the website again. A few more names were added, giving a total of 555 persons in the database.

5/24/2004. Another small and yet for me very important update to the website. Yesterday my daughter Nienke was born. I will have a three-week holiday soon to spend some time with my family. Hopefully I will also find some time to update the site some more.

9/16/2003. There are a few reasons why this website has not been updated since March 2003. The most important reason is the birth and almost immediate death of my son Sam on May 4th. I think it goes without saying that this event has made an enormous impression on both my wife Martine and myself. It took me quite some time before I regained my interest in the less important things in life, like this website. Today there's a small update. No new people, just a few corrections and some new pictures.

3/10/2003. Finally I've had some time to work on the website. With many thanks to George Buist, there are now more than 500 people in my database! I'm in the process of answering the e-mails I've received in the previous month, so if you're waiting for a reply: I'm working on it!

2/12/2003. I've answered my e-mail from the previous weeks and I've uploaded some new data. Thanks to all who contributed!

1/10/2003. A small update to the database: I've added a new tree with 4 persons. I've also added a FAQ section to the website.

12/27/2002. Today a small change to the layout of the website. I've added a welcome for all visitors to help them find their way around the site. I've also added some statistics (top right corner) and a birthday list (top left corner). However, the most important addition to the website is the possibility to view the separate family trees that were somewhat hidden in the database until today.

12/24/2002. Finally another update! Thanks to Chris Buist (who is the previous owner of the buist.net domain), 32 people could be added to the database.

12/21/2002. I've received some very kind season's greetings from website visitors. Thanks for this and a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

12/20/2002. As explained earlier, my e-mail address is being used by 'spammers' to send me all sorts of highly annoying junkmail. As a result of this, I have now decided to start using a mail filtering service. As a result of this, it might not be possible to send me certain attachments. If you're trying to send me mail with an attachment and you get an error message returned, please send me an e-mail without the attachment and we'll work something out. I'm considering adding a file uploader to the website, but I'm not sure yet.

12/19/2002. After a very busy period at work it looks like I'll finally have some time to update the Buist website. I've received some new information through e-mail which I hope to include on the website somewhere next week. I'll also be answering my e-mail next week.

10/20/2002. Hi all! I'm busy answering all the e-mail I've been receiving lately. Also, I've added a few more names to the database and I've been able to add some more details of people that were already in my database.

8/31/2002. I've noticed that the Buist website has been scanned by spammers who have taken my e-mail address and are now sending me lots of junkmail. I have implemented some protective measures against this annoying practice, which also protects the e-mail addresses people have given when posting a message to the forum. The protection consists of a simple javascript function, which unfortunately will make it impossible to see any e-mail address on this website if you have a browser that can't handle javascript. I apologize for this, but it appears to be the only way to get rid of automated mail address collectors.

8/24/2002. I've handled all the e-mail I received up until today. Many thanks to all who mailed me with corrections and additions; I have added them all to the website. All this despite the fact that my ISDN link has been down for several hours today.

8/21/2002. Just a quick note to let you all know I'm still alive. I've been on a very nice holiday to the USA and now that I'm back lots of work are waiting for me. I've received a lot of e-mails regarding the buist.net website and I would like to thank you for sending me these mails; they really make maintaining the website a lot of fun! Anyway, I'll be answering your e-mails over the next couple of days, so if you didn't get an answer to your e-mail, please be patient for a little longer.

6/6/2002. With many thanks to Geert Wilts, I've been able to add another 132 people to the database, giving a total of 407 people. Check out Geerts website about the people of Onstwedde.

5/9/2002. Another update, thanks to Wolter and Trientje Buist. Another 69 people were added. However, not all the data is complete. If you live in The Netherlands and you are called Buist, please take a look at the details for the children of Harm Buist, born October 11, 1876. If you have any additional information about Harm's children and grandchildren, please contact me ().

5/5/2002. Major update, thanks to Henk Buist from Tilburg. I've been able to add 68 people to the database. Within a couple of days, I hope to add some more people.

3/21/2002. This is to inform you that I'm still alive. I haven't had much time updating the site, but here's another small update. I've changed some e-mail addresses; no new persons added to the database. Some Buists contacted me recently and I hope they come up with some new information soon, so it looks like I might add some more Buists to the database soon!

8/6/2001 9:00:00 PM. I've been very busy recently with other things, but here's another small update. I've added some more people to the database. I would like to draw your attention to the forum, where Buist-related questions can be asked (and answered). The forum can be found here or through the navigation bar at the top.

6/15/2001 4:30:00 PM. The site is now available in both English and Dutch.

6/10/2001 11:00:00 PM. Another small update to the database, giving a total of 119 people. At the moment, there is information present about living people. I have not put any information on-line that could be used to track people. However, if you are included in the database and you are uncomfortable with that, please let me know by . We'll work something out then. If you have an idea about how to deal with privacy in general, please post a message on the forum so we can discuss it.

5/30/2001 11:30:00 PM. More people added to the database. The total is now 105.

5/10/2001 10:25:00 PM. The site now has its own forum! Feel free to leave a message! In the past days, I also added some more people to the database as well as some links. There are now 78 people in the database.

5/5/2001 3:45:00 PM. You can now search the database using the search form. Furthermore, I added lots of persons to the database. There are now 72 people in the database.

5/3/2001 10:30:00 PM. More names and marriages were added. Still much more to come. . . . . .

4/30/2001 12:30:00 AM. The first database is on-line. I have created a simple form page which shows all the names in the database. From there, you can click through to a details screen. I hope to have a search form available soon, but now it's time to sleep. . . .

4/28/2001 5:00:00 PM. I moved the site to a server at brinkster.com. Brinkster allows me to have a database on the site and access to the database through ASP (Active Server Pages). I'm expecting to have a first 'Buist database' on-line within a few days.

4/24/2001 4:00:00 PM. After waiting for a long time, finally a 'Buist' domain became available. My name is Ron Buist, which probably explains why I would like to own one of those domains. Having a cool e-mail address is one of the reasons for having the domain, creating a web site is another good reason. Here it is. Welcome to http://www.buist.net. I hope it will become a home for all people interested in the Buist family name.

So what's the purpose of this web site? Well, the idea is to put up lots of information about the Buist family name. I would like to get the family tree on-line. My parents already collected some information about their ancestors and I would like to take this one step further.

My idea is, to create a database with all the information I can get, and then get this information on-line on this site. I'm already working on a database and as soon as I find a practical way to translate the data into good-looking web pages you will see the first results here. I can't promise this will be done tomorrow. I have a full-time job and in my spare time other people and matters require my attention as well.

In the meantime, I could use your help. If your name is Buist and you are interested to find out if we are somehow related, please provide me with some information. What's your name? What do you know about your ancestors? Did they come from Holland (the country in Europe I mean, not the town)? If so, we could very well be related. Please e-mail me.
